Volvsoft — manufacturing software company

AS9100 QMS Software for Aerospace Manufacturers

Configuration management, AS9102 First Article Inspection, AS9103 variation management, and audit-grade supplier quality — built for the standard aerospace primes audit you against.

AS9100 is ISO 9001 plus the aerospace overlay — and the overlay is where audits are won or lost. AS9102 First Article Inspection records are mandatory and customer-specific. AS9103 variation management has explicit data requirements most QMS platforms don't store. Counterfeit parts prevention (AS5553, AS6174) is woven through supplier qualification and incoming inspection.

Volvsoft builds AS9100 QMS software around the aerospace overlay specifically — not generic ISO 9001 with an aerospace label. The data model handles configuration items, FAI forms 1/2/3, AS9103 variation data, and supplier qualification per AS9100 §8.4. Audit prep stops being a multi-week scramble. Pairs with our aerospace ERP for end-to-end AS9100 / ITAR / CMMC coverage.

What you get

Configuration management (§8.5.6)

Effective-dated BOMs, ECO/ECN flow, as-designed/as-built/as-shipped tracking. Auditors see the configuration history without custom queries.

AS9102 First Article Inspection

Forms 1, 2, 3 in customer-required formats. CMM data integration. Re-FAI triggers on configuration change.

AS9103 variation management

Key Characteristic identification, control plan data, capability evidence — structured for the standard's actual requirements.

Counterfeit parts prevention

AS5553 / AS6174 supplier qualification, incoming inspection records, supply-chain documentation traceability.

Supplier quality (§8.4)

Approved supplier list with scope tracking, periodic re-evaluation, scorecards aligned to aerospace prime expectations.

Risk management (§8.1.1)

Risk register, risk-based decision tracking, risk closure with effectiveness evidence — not generic 'risk forms.'

AS9100 vs ISO 9001 — what the difference means in software

Vendors that claim 'AS9100 ready' usually mean 'ISO 9001 with extra fields.' Real AS9100 alignment shows up in:

  • First Article Inspection treated as a structured workflow, not document storage
  • Configuration items as a transactional data type — not metadata on documents
  • Counterfeit parts prevention as a built-in supplier evaluation factor — not optional
  • Special process control (heat treat, NDT, surface treatment) with NADCAP-compatible records
  • Operator certification tracking integrated into work-order release (welder cert per AWS, NDT per NAS-410)

Audit-ready evidence

When an aerospace prime or notified body audits, they ask specific questions and expect specific evidence. The QMS should make every answer one click away.

  • AS9102 FAI for any serialized end-item — instant retrieval with form 1/2/3
  • Configuration history for any contract item — every change with effectivity and approval
  • Operator certification matrix for any work cell — current, expiring, expired
  • Supplier qualification evidence for any approved supplier — scope, evaluation history, scorecard
  • Special process certification — current cert, scope, expiration, supplier

NADCAP & special process integration

Aerospace special processes (heat treat, NDT, chemical processing, welding, coatings) are typically performed by NADCAP-accredited suppliers — and the records have to prove it.

  • NADCAP cert tracking with scope and expiration alerts
  • Process travelers with required certification stamps
  • Outside processing (OSP) PO data tied to supplier NADCAP scope
  • Supplier audit records and CAR closure history
  • Customer-specified special-process supplier mapping

Frequently asked questions

How do customer FAI variants work?

Different primes (Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon, Northrop, Honeywell, Spirit) have specific FAI form formats and additional data requirements beyond AS9102. We model each customer's variant as a configuration of the standard FAI workflow.

Can this support DoD contractor flow-down?

Yes. DFARS clauses, ITAR control, CMMC requirements, and counterfeit-parts (DFARS 252.246-7008) flow-down are explicitly modeled. Supplier qualification captures DFARS-required evidence.

What about transition from AS9100D to AS9100E?

We track standard-revision applicability per certification scope. When new revisions release, we provide gap analysis tooling and update procedures aligned to the IAQG transition guidance.

How does this integrate with our existing systems?

PLM (Windchill, Teamcenter, Aras) for configuration source of truth. MES (Solumina, Aegis, Plex, custom) for work execution. ERP for material and PO data. Customer portals (PSDS, Exostar, etc.) for FAI submission. Bidirectional integration where useful, read-only references where not.
